Don't forget, next weekend for the September 4th Market there will be a lots of new fall flavors! If you have a special request, please make sure you let us know so we can bring that for you.

We will also be bringing more Freddy's pupcakes...our cupcakes for dogs. The proceeds from these go towards The Ark Foster Care Program in Fillmore, IN. Be sure and check out their animals if you are looking to get a new pet!

Several people ask at the market about the pupcakes, and I wanted to share a little more information behind the pupcakes and their name as well as why I am donating the money.

In September 2008, my husband (who works at Petsmart) came home from work talking about a dog named Freddy that was up for adoption. Apparently he slept all day and looked like a mess. He was missing most of his fur and was extremely skinny. My husband loved him, and we laughed because he looked like Mr. Burns from the Simpsons. They don't know exactly where he came from or how old he was (they guessed 12-14 years old), but he seems to have been mistreated and never given a good home. I met him, and we ended up adopting him from the Ark. Freddy was one of the dogs that probably would have been looked over as he lied next to the energetic puppies. He was in bad shape and needed to be taken care of. However, we could not pass him up, and he became a member of our family...we called him Freddy Burns.

For the next (almost) two years, we took care of him and gave him a good home. He was a special dog, and he definitely touched our lives. In May of this year his health began declining rapidly, and we found out he was suffering from congestive heart failure. We tried medication to help him improve, and it worked for a few months. Finally, the vet assured us there was nothing that could be done and that he was just going to suffer. On August 5th, we had to make the decision to do what was best for him, and we had to let him go.

In memory of Freddy and to support the shelter he came from, we wanted to create these pupcakes and give back to them for taking in dogs of all kinds who need a chance to get medical treatment and find a good home. They are a small shelter and they do an awesome job with their animals.

If you want more information about The Ark, feel free to contact me, and I can give you more information. We hope to see you at the market Saturday. Even if you don't want a cupcake for yourself, come and show some love for your pets and get some of Freddy's pupcakes.

Thanks for all of your support and a special thanks to those who donated a few extra dollars to The Ark :)
